Dental implants are an ideal solution to replace a missing tooth. When multiple teeth are missing, we can create dentures that attach directly to implants.  Dr Schofield has placed over 1000 implants over the past 16 yrs and Fundy Dental has the technology to let our patients know if they are a candidate for dental implants at the consultation appointment.

Dental Implants Explained

Dental implants are a popular and effective way to replace missing teeth. They are artificial tooth roots made of titanium, which is a strong and durable material that is well-tolerated by the body. Dental implants are placed in the jawbone where the missing tooth used to be, and they fuse with the bone to provide a stable and long-lasting foundation for a replacement tooth.

The process of getting a dental implant involves several steps. First, your dentist will evaluate your oral health and take X-rays and impressions of your teeth and gums to determine the best location for the implant. Next, the implant will be placed in the jawbone during a surgical procedure. After the implant is placed, there is a healing period of several months during which time the implant fuses with the bone. Once the implant has fused with the bone, your dentist will attach an abutment, which is a connector piece that links the implant to the replacement tooth. Finally, the replacement tooth, also known as a crown, will be attached to the abutment to complete the process.

One of the benefits of dental implants is that they look and feel like natural teeth. Because they are fused to the bone, they are very stable and secure, and they do not require any special maintenance beyond regular brushing and flossing. In addition, dental implants can help to prevent bone loss in the jaw, which is a common problem when teeth are missing.

There are several factors that can affect the success of a dental implant, including the health of your gums and jawbone, your overall health, and your commitment to good oral hygiene. Your dentist will evaluate these factors before recommending dental implants as a treatment option.

Overall, dental implants are a safe and effective way to replace missing teeth, and they can provide a long-lasting solution for people who are looking to restore their smile and improve their oral health. If you are missing one or more teeth, consider a consult to discuss if you are a candidate for dental implants at Fundy Dental.
